Gearbox for Compact Car

NOVAGEAR has completed the developed of a novel gearbox for a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in collaboration with a US customer.

The concept, a two-stage planetary gear in combination with a torque vectoring module for the wheel-selective torque control, was derived from a gear synthesis.

The electric motor, a water-cooled permanent-magnet synchronous motor, rotates at 18,600 rpm max. The gearbox increases its torque by factor 16. Motor and gearbox form an integral drive unit, which is installed coaxially in the rear axle.

The customer decided to build the gearbox as a prototype for extensive testing. NOVAGEAR will prepare all manufacturing drawings and the test specification.
